|
|
Sue Ashton (Ashe) is a member of Localartist. She is opening her studio to the public on August 8th and 9th, 2009. Admission is free. Sue is one of around thirty artists over the two mills opening their studios and holding workshops. Woodend Artists present a gallery of artist & community created work responding to the industrial heritage of Mossley & Woodend Mill itself. Alongside open studios & a chance to explore the mill, meet the artists & enjoy the picturesque surroundings.
In 1848, Robert Hyde Buckley – the youngest son of Nathaniel, built Woodend mill alongside the canal and river Tame, close to his father’s mills. Mossley was then known as the town of three counties of Yorkshire, Lancashire, and Cheshire and was thriving in cotton production during the latter part of the 19th century right up to the cotton famine in the 1930s.
