Postcards To The G8: Building a Mosaic of Artists' Interpretations - One Postcard at a Time In this time of economic and political uncertainty, the premier visual arts organization in the region of Muskoka, Ontario, Canada, Muskoka Arts & Crafts, is inviting the world's artists to send postcard sized works illustrating their concerns to the leaders of the G8 nations. The show is called 'Postcards to the G8'. Postcards is a response to the 2010 G8 summit which is being hosted locally in the small town of Huntsville. "I'm sure that Prime Minister Hatoyama, Prime Minister Brown, and President Obama will be traveling to our fair town with a clear agenda in mind," says Sara Hall, President of Muskoka Arts and Crafts. "In fact, I'm sure that all of the leaders will be bringing their agendas with them. The idea behind this show is to ask the People, 'What's important to you.'" Support for the show has been overwhelming both locally and internationally. Inquiries have been made from as far away as Australia, Kenya and Sweden. One particularly exuberant query came from 'Artists Without Borders', an international non-profit humanitarian organization based in Tokyo. Venues for 'Postcards' will vary, and will be located throughout the region. They will get maximum exposure as the spotlight turns on Muskoka. Helping to promote the exhibition is renowned Canadian musician Hawksley Workman who was born and raised in Muskoka. Muskoka is a region with a rich and dynamic arts heritage. In 2008 the Muskoka region was designated an 'Arts Community', an acknowledgment of the incredible diversity of talent that calls the district home. Each submission to 'Postcards' must be an original, unframed work on paper exactly 4 X 6 inches in size. The works may be carried out in any medium. There is no restriction on the number of entries allowed, and there is no entry fee for this show. Works are to be mailed post-paid to Muskoka Arts & Crafts P.O. Box 376, Bracebridge, Ontario, Canada, P1L 1T7. Entry deadline is May 15. 'Postcards to the G8' will open June 5 and will continue until June 30, 2010. Please see our web site for the call to entry form, and more details. |
