One way to take home memories of a trip or special occasion is to video it. However, when we want to look for an image to reproduce in paint, the video is not the first place we would look. A still photograph is needed.

Have you ever thought of combining the two.

Take a still for detail such as colour, placement and perspective and consult the video for more of a general feeling of the surroundings or people. The video is so much more useful for setting an ambience than one image that may not capture all the aspects you nearly remember but need to have confirmed. 

Combine the two by watching the video before and during each session and have the photograph strategically placed, not to copy, necessarily, but to help with composition.

You may also add a voice-over for your records for names and places.
