Colour Harmony Print

ImageTo provide colour harmony throughout your Oil or Acrylic painting a mid-tone may be chosen and applied as a background wash before commencing the composition.

The darker and lighter tones may be applied over this colour, allowing it to appear at intervals throughout the whole painting, therefore unifying it.

Care must be taken with darker applications as mistakes may show through following, lighter glazes, but the method is a good one, used by many of the Old Masters, and is economical as only the lighter and darker tones need then be applied.

The method contrates the mind on unification of colour and the result is very pleasing.

Do not confuse this method with the concept of limited palette where few colours are involved. The idea is simply to unify the range of colours applied to the painting. Allowing it to occur throughout the subject is pleasing to the eye and brings the painting together.
